Unfortunately, a Reiki treatment may have mild side effects. Keep in mind that Reiki assists the body in healing itself. If we cut one of our fingers, we clean the wound, put on a bandage, and miraculously the skin heals itself in a matter of days. However, even a minor skin wound requires the body to work overtime and must work hard to rebuild that skin tissue. A Reiki treatment will help the body heal emotional, psychological and physical wounds. Again, the body will work hard to heal itself, and bring itself back into balance. However, this type of healing involves cleansing of organs and tissues. Just as with a deep tissue massage from a massage therapist, the body may react by detoxifying It is important to remember to drink lots of water to flush out any toxins that are released. You may also need to drink anti-dehydration formulas (such as Pedialyte) or sports drinks to maintain a balance to your bodys system of electrolytes. Be gentle to your body for the next few days. Avoid strenuous exercise, stressful situations, or long periods without food, water or sleep. Also, it is better to avoid drinks containing alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before and after a treatment since they will also dehydrate your body. Do not hesitate to call your Reiki practitioner or health care provider if you have any questions about possible side effects. Remember that although the side effects may be painful or annoying, it is your bodys way of healing itself and you will feel better physically and emotionally in a short while. Becoming what you are supposed to be often comes at a cost. |
